In 1993, Spectrum established its Correctional Treatment Division to provide specialized treatment to offenders with a history of chronic substance abuse and criminal behavior. Using a cognitive-behavioral skill building and therapeutic community approach, Spectrum's correctional treatment programs teach participants practical ways to achieve a law abiding life, free from drugs and crime. Today, Spectrum provides a range of services to more than 6,500 criminal offenders each day, in community-based settings and correctional institutions throughout Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia.
This counselor facilitates general population orientation to address the involvement and repercussions of gang affiliation and activity in prison as well as promoting non-violence within the institution. The counselor also ensures that all inmates are provided with education in the assigned curriculum approved by the Department of Correction. Counselors facilitate multiple groups that specifically address assessed need areas. Counselors utilize effective motivational interviewing and group facilitation techniques to promote change. Counselors are responsible for written documentation in the case records.
Schedule is Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:00pm, however position will require availability to work 1:00pm-9:00pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays when needed.
- BA/MA or equivalent experience in criminal justice, human services, education or closely related field preferred.
- Previous corrections experience is extremely helpful in this position.
