In 1993, Spectrum established its Correctional Treatment Division to provide specialized treatment to offenders with a history of chronic substance abuse and criminal behavior. Using a cognitive-behavioral skill building and therapeutic community approach, Spectrum's correctional treatment programs teach participants practical ways to achieve a law abiding life, free from drugs and crime. Today, Spectrum provides a range of services to more than 6,500 criminal offenders each day, in community-based settings and correctional institutions throughout Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia.
The Substance Abuse Counselor provides the inmate population with information/education around addiction and recovery in a non-residential treatment setting within the Department of Corrections. Group facilitation is a major piece of this position, as well as educating the population about Medical Assisted Treatment. This role works closely with the Massachusetts Department of Corrections (MADOC) staff to coordinate all program services and provide information for case management/records management.
This position is located at MCI Shirley Minimum. Schedule is Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:00pm.
- BA/MA in Human Services, Psychology Education, Counseling or closely related field preferred; experience may be substituted for educational preferences.
- Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) or Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) preferred.
- Corrections experience or experience working in a secure environment preferred. Basic computer skills preferred (ie: Word, Excel, Outlook, etc...)
