In 1993, Spectrum established its Correctional Treatment Division to provide specialized treatment to offenders with a history of chronic substance abuse and criminal behavior.   Using a cognitive-behavioral skill building and therapeutic community approach, Spectrum's correctional treatment programs teach participants practical ways to achieve a law abiding life, free from drugs and crime.  Today, Spectrum provides a range of services to more than 6,500 criminal offenders each day, in community-based settings and correctional institutions throughout Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia and Washington State.

The Substance Abuse Counselor, using the designated forms, supplies, and Recovery Management methods, conducts Motivation Assessment Planning (MAP) and Recovery Groups with identified parolees as specified in the current contract between Spectrum and the Georgia State Board of Pardons & Paroles ("SBPP").

Schedule for this position is:

Mondays: 4:30pm-5:30pm (weekly)
Mondays: 5:30pm-7:00pm (1-2 times monthly)


  • Licensed as Professional Counselor, Clinical Social Worker or Marriage and Family Therapist and/or Addictions Counselor (ICRC, NAADAC, NBCC, GACA). 
  • If not licensed or certified, must be eligible and obtain within 24 months of hire.
  • Minimum two years of supervised counseling experience.
  • Must have excellent verbal, interpersonal, and writing skills.
  • Three years recovery required for recovering individuals.
